Should Church and State be Separate Essay -- essays research papers
Abstract There has been much debate on whether or not the United States has been doing the right thing by keeping church and state as separate entities rather than keeping them entwined as had been the standard for centuries prior to the countryââ¬â¢s founding. The list of influences this law could affect is substantial, ranging from the workplace to school functions. Even the way people decorate their offices and houses has come into question from time to time. However, remarkably, every person has a different style of argument and a different way of looking at the available facts. I intend to compare two very different argument styles on both sides of this issue, and how two capable writers use completely different methods of research, facts, and interpretations to propose their opinions. Should Church and State be Separate? Alan Wolfe (2002) speaks about many of the implied hypocrisies during the centuries-long debate over separation of church and state. While most people are brought up to question hypocrisy, Wolfe claims that some level of it is necessary to allow for compassion from the audience. ââ¬Å"Surely we should want our anti-clericalists to have a touch of belief about them, especially when compared to the truly cynical.â⬠Wolfe (à ¶ 14, 2002). In his book, Separation of Church and State, Philip Hamburger called many of the politicians ââ¬Å"â⬠¦opportunisticâ⬠however; their type of behavior is often seen throughout our society today. In his article, ââ¬Å"Church and State Should be Separate,â⬠Wolfe (2002) uses lawyers as an example; The history of American jurisprudence is filled with examples of lawyers seeking to build the strongest possible cases for their clients or causes, dropping one argument and employing another if it promises a greater chance of success, even if it seems to contradict the first. (à ¶ 13). Throughout his argument, Wolfe also cites the court case, ââ¬Å"Everson vs. Board of Education,â⬠which placed separation of church and state into constitutional law in 1947. Prior to this case, the set of rules and ethics, Godââ¬â¢s or Manââ¬â¢s, that should guide us, the citizens, had been debated but never determined. On the other side of the spectrum stands Steve Bonta. Bonta contends that separation of church and state is a historical mistake waiting to happen. He uses examples from the French Revolution, in which they attempted the same ideal--giving the power to ... ...selves. Favoritism of one religion over another would also lead to more prejudice and unethical happenings in everything from school and businesses to career paths and job security. I also believe that when one religion stands above another, there is always a risk of another holocaust, even if on a smaller scale. Any of the above events would completely negate our Constitution and lead to the utter destruction of our foundation. Americans have come to rely on and trust their freedoms, even if they take them for granted from time to time, and while some would be thrilled to have a religious establishment placed in an area of power, the majority would see it as a lie from the get-go that this country stands for freedom, and all trust in the government would falter, leading to either another American Revolution or tyrannical rule. ââ¬Å"Church and State Should be Separateâ⬠Alan Wolfe. Investigating the Effect of Resistance on a Capacitor Circuit :: Papers
Investigating the Effect of Resistance on a Capacitor Circuit Method: We will set up the following circuit. We will measure the capacitor pd. (Vc) with the cell connected. Then we will remove the cell and connect point A to point B, at the same moment starting a stopwatch. We will record the length of time (t) for the Vc to decay to 3.75 Volts. We intend to repeat this procedure using different resistors. [IMAGE] Resistance (kW) Time (s) 33 33 68 72 100 97 150 153 330 320 680 584 Conclusion: From the graph we can clearly see that the time taken for the capacitor to discharge is directly proportional to the resistance. This is because the graph shows a definite straight line going through or near most of the points. This means that the higher resistor you use the longer it will take for the capacitor to discharge. The experiment has therefore proved the prediction correct i.e. the resistance should be directly proportionate to the time taken for the capacitor to de-charge. This can be explained by the following: Capacitors store electrical charge. When current is passing through the circuit the capacitor charges up as the current can't jump between the gap of the two plates but charge is held there because of the force of the opposite poles. This means that more and more electricity is stored until it reaches its full capacity. But when the circuit is broken the capacitor de-charges releasing electricity through the circuit. The resistor slows down the current causing 'congestion' and means that the capacitor has to de-charge slower because only a limited amount of charge can travel through a circuit with a high resistance at any one given time. Evaluation: The method was a good way of carrying out the experiment as it was quite easy to conduct once the circuit was connected, the results seem

Amanco Case Study Essay
Is the Amanco strategy an example of ââ¬Å"corporate social responsibilityâ⬠or ââ¬Å"corporate self-interestâ⬠? Amancoââ¬â¢s strategy is an example of corporate social responsibility. Amanco came from a group who self-regulated social responsibility into its business model. Amancoââ¬â¢s business model is also self-regulated and has opportunity to be recognized as a company with social concerns. It almost cannot be seen as a corporate self-interest, because Amanco addressed every step of their operation. They employed a birth-to-grave approach when looking at the effects it had on the social well-being of the people and the environment. Why has Roberto Salas chosen to develop a strategy map and Balanced Scorecard to represent Amancoââ¬â¢s triple bottom line objectives? He chose to develop this strategic map, so that his top, middle, and bottom manager can understand the directions that the company wants to go it. By developing this map, it is easier to adapt this strategy in the different regions and business units. Why did Salas choose to modify the traditional strategy map/BSC format? Salas didnââ¬â¢t think that the traditional strategy map clearly presented the triple bottom line concepts as a foundation for any value creation and competitive advantage. He thought by modifying the map, it would make it a clearer and more logical representation of the companyââ¬â¢s strategy. What challenges does Salas face with implementing Amancoââ¬â¢s strategy? Salasââ¬â¢s challenges will be getting the right people to champion such a strategy. This falls a little into the Red Strategy of getting the right people, who understands, and buys into the strategy. The problem doesnââ¬â¢t just lie with the people, but also with the different rules and regulations, and the languages in the different countries. Trying to standardize the strategy would be a huge challenge, but it sounds like the created Local SSCs first and tried to link it back to the companyââ¬â¢s SSC. In what ways is Amanco following a ââ¬Ëyellowââ¬â¢ strategy? Amanco is a yellow strategy company, since they look to be considerate of the people. Their purpose and practice goes a long way in making sure that their actions address the needs of its community. Things like product awareness; they adapted a birth-to-grave approach on their products, vetting each step in the cycle to make sure that their outputs werenââ¬â¢t detrimental to the community. With the people, they started within, in ensuring that their employees were taken care of.

Son of the Revolution Essay
Peter Kim HIST 354 McKenzie April 2013 Son of the Revolution Essay Right at the start of the memoir, Son of the Revolution, the readerââ¬â¢s attention is drawn to the strict nature of the daycare center the narrator is in. We find that Chinaââ¬â¢s motion towards a Socialist party is integrated down to the peopleââ¬â¢s level, even implemented and enforced in the daycares. This seems extreme to the reader, especially when the songs sung by the children are titled, ââ¬Å"Sweeping the Floorâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Working the Factoryâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Planting Trees in the Countrysideâ⬠.One doesnââ¬â¢t need much context clues to figure out what these songs are about. Consequently, this level of extreme integration has caused Chinese society to value family as second-priority to this pursuit of Socialist. However, in this setting where the family isnââ¬â¢t that well off, we learn that Heng and his siblings were spoiled by their paternal and maternal grandmothers. In regards to Mao Zedong, the people of China are led to believe that Mao was in some sort of a deity, a god that affected everyoneââ¬â¢s lives.Simultaneously, he was considered as a national father of everyone in Communist China. The author demonstrates this when recalling the sweet of relief he felt when he heard ââ¬Å"that Chairman Mao had forgivenâ⬠him, and through writing exercises that required them to repeatedly practice writing, ââ¬Å"Chairman Mao is our Great Saving Star,â⬠and ââ¬Å"We are all Chairman Maoââ¬â¢s good little children. â⬠To many outside nations, including Americans, this seems like a way of brainwashing the people, especially at such an early age. However, we already know that the leaders of the Communist Party have no such fatherly intentions for their ââ¬Å"childrenâ⬠. The ââ¬Å"Hundred Flowers Movement,â⬠a movement that encouraged Chinaââ¬â¢s peoples to openly express their voices and opinions, turns out to be a trap set to ide ntify any Rightists in the midst of people. Trying to be helpful, Hengââ¬â¢s mother is accused of being a Rightist and is sent to a labor camp to ââ¬Å"reformâ⬠her. We observe this clash of traditional Confucian value in family with the political allegiance to the Communist movement in Hengââ¬â¢s father, even to the oint where he denounces his own wife. The loyalty to Chinaââ¬â¢s communist Party over family runs deep within its people. Upon hearing that their own father is accused of being a Capitalist and anti-Party, Liang Heng and his siblings become enraged at their own father; in other words, the children honored the communist Party more than they honored their own father, which is ironic to Liang Shang, since he abandoned his wife for the Party. In addition to the Hundred Flowers Movement, Liang Hengââ¬â¢s life took another major turn of events with the initiation of ââ¬Å"The Great Leap Forward,â⬠Mao Zedongââ¬â¢s attempt to transform China from an a grarian economy into a more modernized Communist society via rapid industrialization and collective farming. Naturally, private farming would become prohibited and even accused as an act of rebellion against the revolution. However, the Great Leap Forward was a massive failure with millions of people dying from starvation. Liang Hengââ¬â¢s family was no exception, and had to accommodate for these times. The majority of this narrative takes place during the Cultural Revolution, movement that resulted from the failure of the Great Leap Forward. The main goal of the Revolution was to shift ââ¬Å"old,â⬠traditional, Capitalist China into the ââ¬Å"new,â⬠communist China to secure Mao Zedongââ¬â¢s position in power. Like his other previous endeavors, we see that the Cultural Revolution brought with it confusion and chaos to the people, particularly having to do with the change in names of everything around them from roads to stores to public parks. Liangââ¬â¢s friends have even abandoned their old names to adopt newer ââ¬Å"revolutionaryâ⬠names.Still, holding such high regards to their Chairman Mao and failing to see flaws in his methods, our narrator strives to one day carry his own Red Guard uniform, specifically upon seeing his older sister wearing her own uniform. Ironically, his own home is later raided by these Red Guards because of his familyââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"politicalâ⬠history ââ¬â his motherââ¬â¢s relatives have moved to Taiwan, she herself is branded as a Rightist, his father is a writer, or ââ¬Å"stinking intellectual. â⬠These circumstances make it difficult for Liang Heng socially, and he is constantly persecuted and ridiculed by the rest of society because of it.

Black Boy Essay Research Paper 3 Black
Black Boy Essay, Research Paper 3. Black Boy, Richard Wright Black Boy, is both an indictment of American racism and a narration of the creative person # 8217 ; s development. However, even from an early age, Richard had a ferocious spirit of rebellion. Had he lacked the resiliency to be different despite the force per unit area to conform to societal outlooks, he would likely neer have become an internationally celebrated author. The full system of institutional racism was designed to forestall the American black # 8217 ; s development of aspirations beyond humble labour. Racist Whites were highly hostile to black literacy and even more so to black Americans who wanted to do composing a calling. However, Richard did non merely face resistance to his dreams from racialist Whites. In many ways, his ain household and the black community ferociously opposed his aspirations. His grandma, a rigorous, illiterate Seventh Day Adventist, considered reading and composing about anything other than God iniquitous. Richard # 8217 ; s equals considered him silly and unrealistic and possibly unsafe. Throughout his childhood, Richard suffered force at the custodies of his household for make bolding to arise against his assigned function of low silence. In Black Boy, he frequently charges the black community with perpetuating the docket of white racism. Throughout his childhood and maturity, Richard reacted with acrimonious disdain toward what he saw as the entry of other black people to white authorization. Wright has frequently been criticized for neglecting to admit or appreciate the profusion of the American black community. However, his personal experiences clearly affected his relationship with it. Merely as he suffered maltreatment and ill will from his ain household, so did he have small comfort from the larger black community. Wright invariably clashed with what he saw as Black American entry, and, for personal grounds, clashed with all spiritual bigotry. The black community reacted to his rebellion in sort, and Richard suffered intense isolation and solitariness during the formative old ages of his life. He did non understand until subsequently that his household and the black community discouraged his rebellion because matter-of-fact entry to the outlooks of racialist Whites was a agency to guarantee the corporate endurance of the community. A rebellious act of one person non merely represented a menace to his or her life but besides to the lives of his or her household and the black community as a whole. This tenseness, between the demand to conform for endurance and the demand to arise in order to accomplish single and community dreams, is one that animated Wrightââ¬â¢s life and his autobiography. In the book, Richard lays bare the paranoia and trouble of being a black adult male in America, even the purportedly non-racist America of the North. When he fled from the South to Chicago, Wright all of a sudden entered a new environment: The civilization was more tolerant, but lingering beneath was a latent racism. Richard found that the fright of uncertainness engendered by this racism, by the changeless subconscious cognition that blacks in America were 2nd category citizens, could drive many American inkinesss to subject to white authorization merely because it offered the security of cognizing what to anticipate. In the North, Richard could sit following to white adult male on public transit, and he could even impeach a white colleague of ptyalizing in the nutrient at a eating house where he worked. However, for a long piece, Richard did non cognize how to move. He, like many inkinesss, feared perpetrating an discourtesy that might take to the annulment of the meager rights the y had eventually achieved. Richard # 8217 ; s hunt for belonging finally brought him to Communism. But merely as Wright found deficient the dictates of the black community and of faith, he shortly came to happen the paranoia, fright, pettiness, and bigotry of the Communist party to be excessively much. He agreed with Communist political doctrine but non with its pattern. Wright # 8217 ; s hunt for ego, a subject that runs throughout his life of rebellion

These are just few of the questions to ask on whether the domain should be sold or not. But for me, I value our efforts for years, thus I will not sell our domain. .à Functions of E-commerce Softwares: Catalog Display, Shopping Cart, Transaction Processing It is important to provide a catalog display in e-Commerce software. A catalog includes a display or list of goods and services available in the business. In a small local clothing store, the most common catalog service used is the static catalog (Electronic Software, n.d.). In a static catalog, it uses a HTML format to create a simple list appearing on a web page (Electronic Sof tware, n.d.). This software is very important especially for a small online store because it serves as the frontliner of the business. The only way for the customer to be able to know your offered goods and services is to check your web page. It is the most convenient way to offer your products. The customers need not send you email or contact you for questions regarding your business. Shopping cart software makes it convenient for customers to shop in your online business because it eliminates filling out online forms for the products or services that the customers wanted to purchase in your online store. Today, this software also called shopping bag or shopping basket keeps track of the selected products purchased by the customer wherein they can view their shopping list and they can add or delete items on the list (Electronic Software, n.d.). By simply clicking on the item, all the necessary details such a sthe price, the product code and quantity are stored in the cart. Another important software in electronic commerce is the transaction processing. This occurs when a customer clicks the checkout button, the software performs all the necessary calculations such as discounts, tax and shipping cost (Electronic Software, n.d.). Both the customer and sellerââ¬â¢s web server switch into a secure state of communication (Electronic Software, n.d.). Career Field Analysis - Essay Example A case for this type of lawyer includes the handling of representation for clients whose injuries have resulted from negligence or harm by another person, government organ, and company or through another party. In essence, a personal injury lawyer safeguards the interests of citizens, employees, and consumers of products as they handle cases of injuries that may result from the use of faulty consumable products, automobile, medical negligence, work related injuries among a list of other possible causes. As much as this line of work focuses on attaining compensation for a plaintiff, it involves intense research over a case in which the lawyer has the obligation of applying ethical practice in the execution of their duty (Currier and Thomas 18). Over the years, a personal injury law practice has been on the increase with the increase aspects of industrialization and globalization, but this has also met quite a number of resistances especially in the USA. Many of the civil personal injury cases have been successful as the complainants have been able to secure adequate compensation for the injuries acquired from accidental or neglectful causes either at their places of work or through the government making this practice to relevant to the current times. As earlier mentioned, a personal injury lawyer begins practice by studying all aspects of law, then branch out to specialize in this line of defending the rights of the oppressed. Therefore, there is no shorter way to being this type of lawyer as one has to branch out and specialize in one aspect of personal injury litigation. The specialization aspect helps a personal injury lawyer to gain experience and knowledge in one area of litigation in order for them to deliver representation that is of quality to the clients that they represent. Some begin as personal injury lawyers practicing in other peopleââ¬â¢s law firms, then end up setting up their own practices after
